Make a Meaningful Impact
With the help of volunteers, we can assist thousands of our neighbors to file their taxes for free each year, saving them hundreds of dollars and helping them to secure critical tax credits. Volunteering as a tax preparer is one of the most rewarding hands-on experiences. If you are new to preparing taxes, we’ll teach you a helpful skill and if you are a tax professional or student, we’ll give you an invaluable hands-on experience.
No Prior Experience Required
We support you with online and classroom training before the filing season starts. You’ll also have the help of experienced volunteers at each site. Our sites are managed by a staff or volunteer Site Coordinator that will be your primary contact throughout the entire season.
Multiple Positions Available
Greeter: Welcomes taxpayers, ensures they bring the required documents, and explains the process and what to expect.
Interpreter: Aid taxpayers by working alongside the taxpayer and tax preparers. Spanish, Hmong, and American Sign Language bilingual volunteers are needed.
Tax Preparer: Interviews taxpayers and prepares federal and state tax returns using IRS-provided software.
Quality Reviewer: Reviews tax returns for accuracy, advises that taxpayers are responsible for the information on the tax return, and explains the refund and credit amounts.
